It with great disappointment that Harbour City Bears has had to announce the cancellation of this year's Bear Pride - 25 Years + Proud program of events. We are still 5 weeks from it's start, however with today's announcement of at least a 2 week extension of lockdown conditions, it is the only responsible course of action open to us. Of course our plans are only shelved and we look forward to bringing our plans for events to fruition for our members and community one day soon. The most important event of course, Mr Harbour City Bear 2021 will still need to take place in some form in the future. We will release further details on this as they becomes available.

We will be contacting all ticketholders directly and actioning refunds except in the case of Bear Pit where they can hold on to those tickets and redeem them at the next Bear Pit party."

    It's Pageant Season AGAIN!

Mr Australasian Bear 2021, after being delayed a year due to the Pandemic, will be decided at Southern Hibearnation 21 in Melbourne in just a few short weeks. We'll keep you posted how you can support our very own Adam Cooney who will be representing NSW.  Will we make it 3 times in a row after Dale Apple's 2018 & Duncan's 2019 wins respectively?

Mr Harbour City Bear 2021 wil be decided on the 20th August at Bear Pride 2021 and will be looking for contestants soon. To wet your appetite we've released an honour roll of past winners from 2010 forward with photos and info. Are you Bear enough??

    Hi all,

Just wanted to say THANKS! for evyone's support. A change can be difficult especially after a number of years at the Bank, pandemic and then a desire to get back to "normal" again. We've all seemed to workout our beverage options, that the $10 burger deal ROCKS!, seating is vast and varied as well as outdoor options... Phew! Our numbers have been increasing each week as well, now we're back to a regular weekly event. Raffles & Badge draw are well underway.

As a committee we couldn't be happier with The Townie but we're always open to any suggestions. There is a FB message button on the HCB FB page to drop us any comments.

from the Harbour City Bears Committee to all of you who chose to welcome back our event absent for almost 18 months! Such an excellent night on so many levels. It was really wonderful to welcome so many back as well as new faces too. Thanks to our DJ's, DJ Man a veteran of our events and first time in the Pit, DJ Louis Eudo. The floor loved you! Can't wait to see the photos by Ann-Marie Calilhanna. So many excellent moments.

Also thanks to SYD-PAH for handling cloaking duties. Excellent job guys.

We'll be back with another bigger and better Bear Pit as part of BEAR PRIDE 2021 - 25 Years HCB + Proud! in August.

The current and past Harbour City Bears committee members are so sad at the sudden loss of a beautiful man who made such a solid contribution this community. Our condolences to his partner Brett and family.

Hospitalised three and a half weeks ago, Philip died unexpectedly due to completely unforeseen complications 14 may 2021. Funeral details below.

May we always take heart from those that have taken a stand before us. Thank you for leaving your stamp on the club.

    Sydney Star Observer - APRIL 20, 2008

Sydney’s Harbour City Bears (HCB) have introduced a partner membership option as a way of pressuring all levels of government to recognise same-sex relationships.

Group vice-president and membership officer Phillip Penwright said the move was a way for HCB to show it was serious about partner recognition.

“It’s a show of solidarity from our members,” he said. “We have all been trying to get federal and state recognition for our relationships – this is one way the Harbour City Bears can stand up and hopefully get us all a step closer.

“We have already had over a dozen couples say they plan to take up partnership membership.”

The new partner membership will cost $50 for a couple. Previously membership was $30 per person. Concession memberships are also available.

HCB members and a couple of more than two years Mick Perry and Tony Grant said the membership change was a step forward.

“Being in a committed relationship and not having to present ourselves as individuals, but as a couple, is a big step in the right direction,” Tony said.

“Recognition for who and what we are within our society will bring awareness to all government and statutory organisations.”
